The Warhol Appoints Tyler Shine as Assistant Curator of Art

The Andy Warhol Museum has appointed Tyler Shine as its assistant curator of art. Shine arrives at The Warhol from the University of Pennsylvania where he is a doctoral candidate in history of art. He was also a graduate teaching fellow at the same university over the last two years. Shine assumed his role at The Warhol on August 30, 2021.

“I am ecstatic to be joining The Warhol as assistant curator. The museum’s unparalleled collections, thought-provoking exhibitions, and unique programs are endlessly fascinating in the many stories they tell. As a Pittsburgher, The Warhol has long been a special place to me, so I look forward to collaborating with the incredible staff at the museum and colleagues across the Carnegie Museums,” says Shine.

Shine was the inaugural Constance E. Clayton fellow in the Prints, Drawings and Photographs Department at the Philadelphia Museum of Art from 2016 to 2018. While there, he curated the exhibition "Experiments in Motion: Photographs from the Collection." He also worked at The Phillips Collection and the Institute of Contemporary Art, Philadelphia. Prior to the University of Pennsylvania, Shine attended the University of Maryland, where he earned a Master of Art in history of art. Shine also attended the University of Pittsburgh where he earned a Bachelor of Art degree in history of art and architecture.

“I am thrilled that Tyler Shine will be joining our curatorial team in this new role. Almost a decade ago, Tyler interned with The Warhol and has been involved with the Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh in various capacities,” said Jose Diaz, chief curator, “He now returns to Pittsburgh with expertise and curatorial experience, and I look forward to his contributions around the life and legacy of Andy Warhol.”
