Recording now available for "Rare Books: How a Met-worthy Collection of Japanese Illustrated Books Landed at Penn"

Join us on the journey of a collection as it makes its way from the collector, to a curator, to a professor, and finally into the hands of students. Curator Lynne Farrington, Professor Julie Davis, students, and collector Arthur Tress will share how his remarkable collection of 1400 Japanese illustrated books came to Penn and are making an impact on scholarly, artistic, and learning communities at the University and beyond. Arthur and Julie will talk about some of the masterpieces in the collection, including books on kabuki theater, landscape, poetry, calligraphy, kimono design, and more, designed by famous artists like Katsushika Hokusai, Kawamura Bunpo, Utagawa Kunisada, and Kamisaka Sekka.

This talk was recorded live on November 12, 2020. The program was co-sponsored by the Penn Libraries, Penn Alumni Education, and Penn Alumni Travel as part of the Global Discovery Series.
