WRITING COVER LETTERS FOR ACADMEIC JOBS WORKSHOP

Professors Shira Brisman and Sarah GuĂ©rin will discuss the content, structure, and goals of cover letters written for academic jobs. This workshop is aimed at PhD students in our department, at all levels. It is useful to start thinking about the academic job market and the process for applying early, so all students are warmly invited to attend. In preparation for the workshop, those who wish to attend should research the job market in their field over the last two years. Please bring one or two job listings to which you may hypothetically be/have been eligible to apply. We will work on parsing the listings together, and we will discuss the importance of tailoring cover letters to specific positions and institutions. Students who are interested in going on the market this year may find it useful to bring a draft of their own cover letter. While we will not have time to go through everyone's individual examples, having a draft in hand will help make the discussion more relevant.

THIS IS A CLOSED EVENT AND ONLY OPEN TO GRADUATE STUDENTS IN THE HISTORY OF ART DEPARTMENT
