CTL Workshhop: CARE AND CRITIQUE

Professor Shira Brisman, History of Art

Tamir Williams, CTL Graduate Fellow, History of Art

Critique is deeply enmeshed in the academic experience (e.g. grading; feedback; “crits”; peer review), and is often a site of anxiety and stress for both students and instructors. In this workshop we will explore the reorientations to critique that are made possible when we consider it as inextricable from “care.” We will consider some of the following questions: How can we approach and tend to misdirection in student work? What are creative alternatives to traditional grading and written feedback? How can we foster caring and collaborative processes of giving critique?

This event grows out of concerns in the History of Art department and so may be most useful to students in related fields.

Attendance counts towards the CTL Teaching Certificate.
